LAKELAND, Fla. - A traffic stop in Lakeland turned into an officer-involved shooting.
According to Lakeland Police, Officer Michael Glass had stopped to perform a traffic stop on a newer model Chevrolet Avalanche at US 92 and Wabash.
As Ofc. Glass was speaking with the driver, James Houston Black, Jr., 39, he took off, dragging Glass.
Glass was able to pull his gun and fire a shot into the truck.
Moments after the shot was fired, Black smashed his truck into three cars in the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy on George Jenkins Blvd. The truck finally came to a stop when it crashed into a light pole, throwing the officer.
Ofc. Glass was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, with non-life threatening injuries.
Black was also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. He was not shot during the incident.
Glass has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
