LAKELAND, Fla. - A man working on a boat at a Lakeland towing company was injured Wednesday morning when he crossed several wires, causing the gas tank to go up in flames, according to a Lakeland Fire Department spokesperson.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. at the Shirah Towing Company at 1436 Arlington Road. According to the spokesperson, the tank blew up in his face as he was working on the boat.
A landing zone was cordoned off nearby for a medical helicopter.
The fire was nearly out when crews arrived. There was no word on the victim's condition.
No other details were immediately available.
