PITT COUNTY, Fla. - A Lakeland woman is in jail on a $5 million bond after she asked her children to murder their grandparents in North Carolina, according to the Pitt County Sheriffs' Office.
Leticia Silva, 31, is accused of mailing a knife to her daughters, 7 and 9, with the intention of having them stab their grandparents to death.
Silva previously lost custody of her two daughters.
They live with the grandparents, who have permanent custody, in Pitt County, North Carolina.
Investigators say Silva contacted her children about committing the murders in December of 2012.
Officials opened up an investigation on Feb. 4 after the grandparents found out what was going on.
WCTI 12 News interviewed the grandparents who said they found the blade, similar to a steak knife, under the pillow of one of the girls.
The children told investigators that their mother mailed a knife to be used as the weapon to commit this crime.
Silva turned herself in at the Pitt County Detention Center on March 4 Monday morning.
She is charged with four counts of First-Degree Solicitation to Commit Murder and she is under a $5 million secured bond.
