LAKELAND, Fla. - Local elementary school teacher Heather Rimmer's memory is being kept alive through an annual event around Lake Hollingsworth called the Heather's Hope 3rd Annual Purple Ribbon 5K Run/Walk .
Rimmer, a mother to two daughters Paige and Jordyn, lost her life in August of 2008 at the hands of her abusive spouse.
The Heather's Hope Foundation celebrates the life of Rimmer while raising public awareness about the "silent tragedy" of domestic abuse.
Registration is $20 and it kicks off Saturday, October 13 at 8 a.m.
