LAKELAND, Fla. - Four people are dead, three of them children, following a one car accident last night in Lake County. Highway Patrol troopers say the victims lived in Lakeland. They are identified as 41 year old Wilfredo Malave, 9 year old Zion Malave, 7 year old Phoenix Malave and 2 year old Avaya.
FHP investigators say Malave was going south on state road 33 when he lost control on the bend south of Groveland Airport Road. He ended up between a pole and a tree.
Witnesses to the crash said there was nothing they could do to help the victims. The car went airborne before coming to a stop. Malave and one son died at the scene--the other two children died at the hospital.
The cause of the crash, which happened at 6:45pm Friday night, remains under investigation. No word yet if alcohol was involved.
