LAKE WALES, Fla. -  A sheriff's deputy was injured by a hit-and-run driver while investigating a traffic crash in central Florida.

Polk County Sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Wood says a truck hit the deputy and fled the accident scene on Thanksgiving afternoon.

The deputy's name was not released. The Orlando Sentinel (http://thesent.nl/v8z8p9 ) reports the deputy was at the scene of an earlier crash that damaged a utility pole. At the time the deputy was injured, one lane of the road was closed while workers from Progress Energy made repairs.

Authorities say the deputy was not seriously injured. He was taken to Lake Wales Hospital for treatment.

Wood says the sheriff's office is investigating.
