KATHLEEN, Fla. - A Kathleen High School student struck and killed a pedestrian on her way to school this morning, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say 17-year-old Michia Anderson was driving north on Chase Road around 6:10 a.m. when she struck a pedestrian walking in the same direction.
Anderson continued driving and picked up a friend and told the other student she thought she had hit a person, officials said.
The pair drove to Kathleen High, where they reported the crash to a school resource officer.
Deputies responded to the scene and found the body of 70-year-old Francois Simon laying the road.
The investigation is on-going but at this time no charges have been filed.
