KATHLEEN, Fla. - The ladies who work at "Running with Scissors," a Lakeland hair salon, talk about hair styles and much more.
"We have a lot of police officers who come into the salon," said the owner, Grace Owen.
Owen says that when her clients heard about how Tampa Police officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab were gunned down and killed, the conversations at the salon turned to the tragedy.
The ladies who work there decided to use their business as a way to help.
"It's a great opportunity for the community to get together and get some good ribs in the process," said Owen.
They're taking orders for a barbecue benefiting the families of the officers. The barbecue is at Kathleen Middle School on Saturday, where competition cooks will cook $20 slabs of ribs.
All of the proceeds will go to the officers' families.
ABC Action News TV personalities will be there volunteering and would love to meet you, so please stop by. You may want to order your ribs first, though -- because of the high demand of people attending, organizers are now asking you to pre-order.
The barbecue will be held on July 17, from 11a.m. to 6 p.m.
Pre-orders are being taken via:
* Kathleen Middle School 863-853-6040 or 863-853-6041 (Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
* Running with Scissors. 863-815-1234
* Family Press 863-859-3469
* Email Trista Sherouse - ribsfundraiser@gmail.com with your name, a pick up time and how many slabs you want.
