LAKELAND, Fla. - Kathleen Middle School, the Polk County School District, Running with Scissors, Family Press, The Texas Cattle Company and ABC Action News are teaming up to help the families of two slain Tampa Police officers.

Funds are being raised by selling slabs of ribs, which will go for $20 a piece.

It was recommended that you pre-order ribs, but a limited of ribs will be available for purchase if you were unable to pre-order.

Proceeds will be donated to the families of Jeff Kocab and David Curtis. The officers were gunned down in the line of duty June 29th.

Kocab's wife, Sara, is the dean at Kathleen Middle School.

Associate Superintendent Dr. Bruce Tonjes organized the event, and is hopeful that the event will raise as much money as their last large cook-off, which took in around $30,000.

The Texas Cattle Company has donated $1,200 worth of ribs, and the Tampa Bay Rays donated a suite for up to 20 people to be auctioned off with food and drinks for any ballgame.

Other auction items include:

  • A meet and greet with Rascall Flatts and Brad Paisley
  • A full car detail from Alpha and Omena Auto Detailing
  • Lunch with Sheriff Grady Judd
  • Ten steaks, two bottles of win and free delivery from Texas Cattle Company

The barbecue will be held on today from 11a.m. to 6 p.m.
