FROSTPROOF, Fla. - A 10-year-old Polk County boy was listed in critical condition at a Tampa hospital after he was shot in the head at close range by his 13-year-old brother, according to a sheriff's statement.

The victim, Skyler Richardson, was shooting targets outside his Frostproof home on Otto Polk Road with his brother, Taylor Richardson, around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

At one point, deputies said, Taylor pointed his BB gun at Skyler and fired, striking his brother in the head.

Their mother, Heather Richardson, was in the home preparing dinner when Taylor told her what had happened.

Emergency medical services were called to the home and Skyler was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital.

According to the statement, "the injuries appear to be accidental."  The investigation is ongoing.
