WINTER HAVEN - School gets back in session at Winter Haven high school next week, but it's doubtful Steven Beasley will be back on the job that soon. His family secret is perhaps exposed and it just might involve other staff members at this school.
"I can't really say on TV what my first thought was, but the closest thing is horse feathers."
Catherine Bowen told me on Skype she doesn't believe the accusations against Steven Beasley or the sordid details involving his wife Debbie, who is Catherine's niece.
Beasley, the athletic director at Winter Haven high school, was in front of a judge today facing charges of sexual battery.
Investigators say last month, he fondled two women he knew through the school at a event on Lake Howard.
Police say he told one of the victims, his wife, who is a secretary at the school, was ok what he was doing because they are quote "into threesomes."
"I don't think Steve is a sex pervert. I know my niece is not into threesomes," said Bowen from her home in Satellite Beach, Florida.
Beasley is on paid administrative leave. Meanwhile with school not in yet, word about all this is spreading among students through social media.
"I didn't know what had happened. I was shocked. I couldn't believe what I saw," said student Mikeven Gustave.
"He was a nice guy. He was at all the games. Basketball too," said student Marvin Jones.
What makes this story even more bizarre, the witness, Derreck Bennett is the school's volleyball coach. He told police he has been involved in a threesome with the Beasley's.
The victim's told police they thought they could trust Steven Beasley because of his leadership position at Winter Haven high.
His aunt says she's known him since she was his 9th grade teacher. "He is good with adults, good with children. No way. This is just not in his dynamics."
Winter Haven police tell us they are checking to see if Beasley may have behaved inappropriately with any students.
We reached Debbie Beasley by phone. She was very upset and had no comment.
