Auburndale Police Chief Nolan McLeod, who had served as chief for the last five years, lost his battle with stomach cancer Wednesday.  He was 58.

McLeod spent over 30 years in law enforcement, working in Bartow and Live Oak before becoming chief in Auburndale.

"Chief McLeod's presence will be greatly missed by the Auburndale Police Department and throughout our city," City Manager Bobby Green wrote in a statement. "His calm demeanor and wide variety of experience helped the department become more proactive in the community. The Auburndale Police Department is a more professional, better trained, state accredited and respected law enforcement agency due to his leadership."

McLeod is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their two adult sons, Joe and Chad.
