Three-year-old in critical condition after being hit by car

LAKELAND, Fla. - A three-year-old was air lifted to Tampa General Hospital Saturday night after being hit by a car, Lakeland police reported.

Police say O'Montae Thomas was out playing near the 2200 block of Providence Road around 6:45 p.m. While playing the child ran into the street in front an on coming vehicle.

The driver, Ella Mack, 65, of Winter Haven, tried to swerve to avoid hitting the child, but failed to do so.

Her Hyundai struck the little boy causing life-threatening injuries.

The child was flown to TGH in critical condition.

Officers say the child is listed in very critical condition as of Sunday morning.

The investigation is on going at this time.
