TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - A fisherman was airlifted off the 47 foot long fishing vessel he was working on by United States Coast Guard crews Saturday afternoon.
The 38 year old man was suffering from a hand injury that required further medical treatment on land.
Around 4:45 p.m. an aircrew took off from the Clearwater Air Station. The KDS fishing boat was 89 miles west of Tarpon Springs, coast guard officials said.
A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter intended to take the sailor all the way to Tampa General Hospital for treatment, but weather grounded the flight causing the man to be transported the rest of the way by ground.
