ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The recently vacated Sweetbay grocery store located in the Tangerine Plaza in Midtown St. Petersburg will become a Walmart Neighborhood Market.
Walmart made the announcement official on Monday.
According to a release, Walmart plans to open the 39,000-square-foot grocery store early next year and plans to hire 95 new associates.
"We have a vocational, technical institute that trains person for customer service," explained Renee Flowers with the Pinellas County School Board. "This is a perfect opportunity for us to make sure those persons become employed here at this store."
The store will also include a pharmacy.
Sweetbay closed in February as part of a move by the chain to close under performing stores.
A temporary hiring center will open on October 7 at 1201 22nd Street South or applications can be filled out online at http://careers.walmart.com .
The majority of new associates will begin in December.
