ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In their continuing effort to deter drinking and driving, the St. Petersburg Police Department will be showcasing their newly awarded DUI vehicle Thursday afternoon, just in time for Labor Day Weekend.
The new Chevrolet Tahoe comes with moving radar and on-board breath testing, allowing officers to conduct their DUI investigations on scene.
The Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Public Safety Institute awarded the police department with the vehicle because officers made more than 600 arrests in the “Over the Limit-under Arrest” campaign, qualifying them for the prize.
At. 4:00 p.m., the vehicle will be displayed at the southwest corner of the intersection of 22nd Avenue North and Dr. Martin Luther King Street, the scene of a DUI accident that claimed the lives of Elroy McConnell and his three sons on July 31, 2010.
Unit members will be using the Tahoe with it's "Over the Limit - Under Arrest" markings to remind to drivers to avoid behavior that can lead to tragedy.
