PINELLAS COUNTY - While the decision is not yet official, Pinellas School Board members unanimously chose Dr. Michael Grego as their top-pick for the district’s superintendent position.

The decision to hire Grego was made in less than an hour at a workshop Tuesday morning, according to a Pinellas County Schools Press release.

“Dr. Grego's track record, passion and knowledge of the district set him apart,” the release states.

Grego is an associate professor at the University of Central Florida, and he served as Superintendent for Osceola County School District and Florida’s Interim Chancellor in the past.

Board members plan to hold a public "meet and greet" with Grego on Sept. 10.

Based on the success of that event, they plan to initiate the process of negotiating a contract on September 11.

His position would become official once board members vote on a contract at the September 25 School Board meeting.

When Board Chairperson Robin Wikle informed Grego of the board's decision, she said he was "very thankful" and "full of joy".
