ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A police horse lunged into a crowd in St. Petersburg early Friday morning after getting slapped by a Sarasota man, authorities say.

The alleged offender, 28-year-old Prem Cox, has been charged with injuring a police horse.

At 2:45 a.m., Cox allegedly slapped Brooklyn, a horse assigned to Officer Ron Try, at 1st Avenue North and Second Street.

The startled horse lunged into a group of people on the side walk. No one was injured.

According to the arrest affidavit, Cox was under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.

He was taken to Pinellas County jail and his bail was set at $150.

He was released from jail shortly after being booked.
