LARGO - UPDATE: Terry Lamar James, 19, was captured Friday morning by Pinellas County deputies. He is being held on two counts of Home Invasion Robbery. James and an officer exchanged gunfire Thursday night, according to a statement.
Deputies received a tip that led them to Sacred Heart Catholic Church parking lot at 82nd Avenue and 46th Street in Pinellas Park.
James and two others were in the car. When they realized they had been spotted, they tried to run away.
James was captured after a foot pursuit. According to the sheriff's statement, James tried to persuade officers to shoot him. He was eventually subdued with a stun device.
James has been arrested for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and violation of probation.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the Largo Police Department are investigating an officer-involved shooting after the suspect in a home invasion robbery was shot at overnight.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Terry Lamar James, fled after being shot at by an officer and he remains at large, officials confirm.
Police responded to the invasion at 6301 144th Avenue in Largo around 9:15 p.m. Thursday night.
Largo Police officers were told that the armed suspect was inside the home and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was contacted for help.
A parameter was set up around the house and officials attempted to make contact with James.
The suspect fled from the home just before 11:20 p.m. at the back of the house and came into contact with an officer.
James and the officer exchanged fire with each other and the suspect fell down.
James then got up and fled from the scene. It is unknown if the suspect sustained any injuries.
The officer involved was not injured.
James has also been connected to two previous armed home invasions in Largo.
James, who remains at large, is considered armed and dangerous.
The Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the confrontation between James and the involved officer.
