The family of Army Spc. Brittany Gordon has announced a memorial "celebration" service will be held Thursday October 25 at 6 p.m. at Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg in Brittany's honor.
The service will be open to the public.
Gordon died last Saturday in Afghanistan after her unit was attacked by enemy forces with a improvised explosive device. She was part of the 572 Military Intelligence Company, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Divsion.
According to her mother, Brenda Gordon, Brittany joined the Army in 2010 after attending the University of Florida and Saint Petersburg College. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 2006.
Her father is Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon with the St. Petersburg police department.
"The outpouring of love is reflective of the love she shared. She was special and truly unique," Mrs. Gordon said of her daughter.
Brittany's body is said to arrive at MacDill Air Force Base on Wednesday her mother stated.
