PINELLAS COUNTY - A week after promising President Obama to make the switch, former Fla. Republican Gov. Charlie Crist will change his political affiliation from Independent to Democrat.
Crist, 56, plans to file a new voter registration application at the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections 10:00 Thursday morning, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Crist, who served as Florida’s governor from 2007 to 2011, ran in the 2010 a U.S. Senate race.
But after he lost the Republican primary election, he remained in the race as an independent candidate, and lost to Rep. Marco Rubio.
His latest political move continues to fuel speculation that he will enter the 2014 Florida gubernatorial race as a Democrat this time around.
He told President Obama that he would become a Democrat at a White House Party last Friday.
