Arsonist believed to have now set 37 fires over the past five years

An arsonist caused more than $20,000 in damages when he set two palm trees and a power pole on fire, according to Gulfport Police.

GULFPORT, Fla - Gulfport Police believe two more fires set in the area in recent weeks are the works of a serial arsonist.

Over the past five year, 35 fires were set.  Ten fires were set in 2012.

With the two latest fires, the number has climbed to 37.

Most of the fires were set to brush, fences and palm trees.

On January 11, fire was set to palm trees and hedges.  Then, on February 5, fire was set to a trampoline.

According to police, the fires have all been set at night.  So far, no one has been injured in those fires or lost their lives.

A reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with any information is being urged to contact Gulfport Police Department at 727.582.6177
