PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -
A three-year-old child drowned in a backyard pool in Palm Harbor while visiting friends with his family.
Pinellas County deputies were dispatched to a home on Dove Hallow Court in Palm Harbor on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. for reports of a drowning. Palm Harbor Fire Rescue personnel attempted to resuscitate the child. After a pulse was established the child was transported by helicopter to All Childrens Hospital.
At 5:17 p.m. on Friday, Tryston B. Sierra was pronounced dead at All Children’s Hospital. District 6 Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.
Detectives with the Crimes Against Children’s Unit are still investigating, but preliminary information is that the child's mother, Desiree Sierra, was visiting friends at the residence with her five children. The children who range in age from several months to12-years-old were in and out of the pool while the parents watched.
Tryston was seated in a child's float and did not know how to swim. The float is designed to have the child sit with his legs through openings in a mesh-webbing so he could kick his feet as he floated. Somehow, the float flipped over.
Another child in the pool saw Tryston and alerted the parents who pulled him from the water and called 911.
