PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. - Officials are investigating an officer-involved incident after a deputy’s vehicle struck a car with four teenagers inside, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Nicholas Forgione was responding to an emergency call in Safety Harbor in his patrol car at 12:37 a.m.
He was headed northbound on 4 th Avenue N, and activated his emergency lights before he reached the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As he drove through the intersection, the front passenger side of his cruise hit the front driver side of a Ford Explorer driven by 18-year-old Jade Palanjay.
Three other teens, 16 to 17 years in age, were also inside the vehicle.
Palanjay was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The other teens in the vehicle weren’t hurt. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Deputies in the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating the accident.
