PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Steven Clairmont, Jr., was charged with first degree murder with no bond Sunday morning after killing the Port Richey woman he was living with as her handyman.
The 40-year-old Clairmont was found walking near the intersection of Galen Wilson Boulevard and Bahama Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Saturday night covered head to toe in blood.
The driver that spotted him stopped to assist him, but realized the blood wasn't coming from Clairmont. At the time Clairmont was less than a mile away from Kelly Bennett's home at 9247 Wolcott Lane.
Pasco County Sheriff deputies say that shortly after 1 a.m. the teenage son of Bennett came home to find his mother murdered in their living room. Officials say her head had been nearly severed.
The teen called 911 and ran to the neighbors for assistance.
Pasco detectives were able to connect Clairmont to the murder and arrested him Saturday.
Clairmont had been living with the 35-year-old Bennett for about three weeks, working as a handyman.
