PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Police say they have made an arrest in the murder of an elderly New Port Richey woman.
The suspect, John E. Sexton, was already in custody on a burglary, and he is now being charged with the murder of 94-year-old Ann Parlato, according to Pasco County Sheriff's deputies.
Pasco Sheriff Bob White said the murder scene was "worse than any horror movie. She was mutilated."
Blood evidence from that scene matched some found on his clothing, linking him to the murder.
Investigators say he lived less than a mile from the house, and may have offered to do some work for the woman before he brutally killed her.
Parlato was found dead in her home last Thursday, when a friend from Covenant Christian Church went to check on her.
Parlato has two daughters that both live out of state. Her husband, John, died years ago.
