NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a Pasco County woman accused of driving her car into a group of children and killing a 5-year-old triplet.
Betty-Jo Tagerson is charged with vehicular homicide, culpable negligence manslaughter and reckless driving.
Tagerson hasn't made any public statements about the crash that happened on November 5th, 2010. But her attorney said Monday morning she might testify.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Tagerson pulled out of the driveway of her Hudson home and almost immediately lost control of her Jeep.
Investigators say Tagerson hit a mail box and ran into a group of young girls playing in a neighbor's yard. The group included 5-year-old triplet sisters, Delaney, Gabrielle and Isabella Rossman. Their older sister, 10-year-old Victoria was also there.
Delaney later died, Gabrielle was seriously injured. The other girls and minor scrapes and bruises.
Tagerson last appeared in court in October with a walker. Her defense said she suffers from blackouts. They are expected to call medical experts to testify about her condition.
The trial is expected to last three days. Delaney Rossman's surviving sisters, now 7-years-old, were at the courthouse Monday morning and should testify during the trial.
