DADE CITY, Fla. - A woman opened fire on Pasco County deputies as they were trying to serve a warrant at a Dade City home Wednesday morning. She then barricaded herself in a room before turning the gun on herself, according to a statement.
The shooting occurred around 10:20 a.m. at 38745 Burger Lane.
Deputies, there to serve a warrant for misdemeanor failure to appear on an obstruction charge, made contact with Laura Bennet-Eckert, 48, through the door and asked her to come outside.
She refused and spoke with them through an open window. She then fired shots through the window before shooting herself in the chest a short time later, according to the statement.
She was pronounced dead. Deputies say her husband was in the home at the time of the shooting. He was being questioned by investigators.
The deputies were not injured.
