PASCO COUNTY, Fla. - A Pasco County Sheriff’s Office detective is in the hospital after getting into a crash with a driver on US 41.
Just before 11 a.m. Thursday, 61-year-old detective James Gariepy was headed north on US 41 approaching the SR-52 intersection. Elizabeth Pine, 18, was headed south on US 41, also approaching SR 52.
The light for US 41 turned green for north and south bound traffic, and Gariepy turned left under a flashing yellow turn signal. He ended up traveling into Pine’s path, and Pine collided with the unmarked sheriff’s department vehicle.
Gariepy, who was on duty, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Bayonet Point Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition. Pine appears to be okay.
