PASCO COUNTY, Fla - A Pasco County father is charged with neglect of a disabled adult. Deputies say he abandoned his mentally disabled son.
Phillip Johnson, 71, of Holiday, was tracked down at a motel Thursday.
Deputies say Johnson's handicapped son was at a Publix with his belongings asking people for money and help.
According to deputies, Johnson's son has the mental capacity of a child. Deputies did not specify the son's age.
The victim reportedly told authorities his father no longer had room for him and told him 'he was on his own.'
Deputies say the victim had no money and no identification with him.
An arrest report states Johnson receives his son's social security money and that he left his son without access to it.
Johnson said he had been taking care of his son since he was a little boy.
Johnson's son has now been placed in a care facility.
