NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol reports two teenage girl suffered fatal injuries when the car they were in lost control around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday and was struck by a pick-up truck.
Troopers say 17-year-old Courtney Lynn Little was driving her 2008 Chevy Aveo southbound on Moon Lake Road in New Port Richey when she lost control just south of Bethwood Avenue.
The Aveo began rotating counter-clockwise and traveled into the northbound lane. It was at that point a Dodge Dakota going northbound on Moon Lake Road collided with the passenger's side of the Aveo.
The FHP says Little and her passenger, 16-year-old Kimberlee Kathy Markou, both sustained fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene. Troopers say both Little and Markou were wearing their seat belts the accident was not alcohol-related.
The Dakota’s driver, 53-year-old James Butz, and his passenger, 49-year-old Judith Stein, both suffered injuries in the crash. They were taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson in serious condition.
A third driver, 49-year-old James Ryan, observed the initial crash and was forced to swerve to the shoulder of the road to avoid hitting the Aveo and Dakota. Ryan received treatment for minor injuries at Bayonet Point.
The Florida Highway Patrol says their investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
