NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Borg is a rambunctious Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dog.
His owner says he's affectionate, loving and now, he's a hero.
"I heard my dog barking, extremely barking, and that's when I knew something was wrong,:" said Marka Ortiz.
Ortiz came outside Wednesday morning at dawn to a horrifying site in front of her New Port Richey home.
"I see my dog sitting in the driveway and my husband laying in the road."
Marka's husband, Benny, had been walking Borg before work, like he does every morning. But as he crossed State Road 54, he got hit by a car driving east.
Risa Ortega was getting on her school bus at the time, and saw Borg making a commotion in the street, even trying to pull his owner to safety.
"If it wasn't for the dog, then I wouldn't have seen what was out there, I saw his tail going like that (waving motion)."
As Risa called 911, Borg didn't wait. He ran home to let Benny's wife know there was trouble. It was like something out of an old Lassie movie.
Ortiz said the dog saved the day. "He let me know, and everybody tells me he was trying to rescue him out in the road."
Benny is hospitalized with the a broken leg, and facial fractures, but he's going to be ok thanks in part to Borg.
"I hope my dog would do that for me," said Ortega.
To add insult to injury, Benny was ticketed for jay walking.
The woman who hit him turned around and came right back to the scene and was not cited.
