NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - As a teen girl continues to deal with the loss of her mother in the New Port Richey murder-suicide that occurred on Monday, new details regarding the victim, her ex-husband and the alleged murder have begun to emerge.

The victim’s daughter, a teenage girl, discovered the alleged murderer’s body hanging when she walked into her home on the 6000 block of Maplewood Drive. ( http://bit.ly/12bUiOm )

Police later discovered that 37-year-old Tina Lane was beaten to death in an adjacent room.

Now, police say Lane’s killer was the man who was living with her ex-husband.

Rex Shelton, 37, was a painter who lived and worked with Lane’s ex-husband on Spanish Moss Drive.

Shelton, who was described as a close family friend to Lane and her ex, reportedly left the ex-husband at a job site and traveled to Lane’s home.

Police say he then viciously attacked the defenseless victim in her bedroom sometime during the late morning or early afternoon hours.

She suffered traumatic upper body injuries and died in the bedroom.

Shelton then went to the enclosed single car garage and hung himself.

The nature of the relationship between the victim and Shelton is being confirmed at this time and the investigation remains active.
