NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A 50-year-old Pasco County woman is out on bail on bond after deputies say she stole prescription drugs from her workplace for her two sons.
New Port Richey police responded Wednesday afternoon to the K-Mart on U.S. 19 regarding a theft complaint. Officers there met with the store's loss prevention district manager.
Police say the retailer began an investigation after drugs in the store's pharmacy department went missing. Authorities say over the past couple of months Jill Borrero, a K-Mart pharmacy technician, was caught on the store's surveillance video stealing prescription medicine.
Detectives say Borrero stole 1,600 Xanax pills, 132 Hyrocodone pills and 20 Lorazepam pills. The stolen drugs have a combined value of $1000.
Borrero was arrested and charged with Grand Theft. Officers say she admitted to stealing the drugs and said she was giving the pills to her two sons.
Borrero was booked into the Pasco County jail. She was released Wednesday night on $2,000 bond.
