NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A three year old child was found wandering around Hills Drive and Massachusetts Avenue alone and naked midday Saturday.
New Port Richey police say a good Samaritan who was driving by stopped their car and got out to help the little boy.
Police started to canvass area neighborhoods with the help of Pasco County Sheriff’s Office to try and find the child’s home.
While deputies were canvassing Oakmont apartments, located at 6921 Ian Court, a resident recognized the child from pictures deputies and officers were using around the neighborhood.
The man helped identify the child and pointed them in the direction of his mother, Kelly Gibbs, 41, who lived at the complex in apartment three.
When police arrived at Gibbs’ apartment they found it messy with empty alcohol bottles everywhere.
Police say that Gibbs’ wasn’t aware that her son was missing from the apartment until they arrived at her door.
She was arrested for felony child neglect as well as resisting an officer after she started to pull away from them when they started to arrest her.
The child is now in the care of Child Protection Investigators.
