PASCO COUNTY, Fla. - The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Dade City were closed for about four hours Tuesday morning following two crashes involving three tractor trailers, a tanker and two other vehicles.
The crashes occurred around 5 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol says one man, Christopher Kemp, was airlifted to Bayonet Point Hospital with serious injuries.
The crash occurred when a semi in the outside lane began braking after the driver spotted stalled traffic ahead because of an accident involving another semi and a sport utility vehicle. A tanker behind the semi did not slow down and and hit it, according to the FHP.
The tanker then went into the inside lane, hitting a box truck. That truck crashed into another tractor trailer, according to the Highway Patrol.
The contents of all the trucks remained intact and did not spill.
The crashes remain under investigation and charges are pending, according to the FHP.
