Swiss pilot dead in Land O' Lakes plane crash on private property

LAND O' LAKES, Fla. - The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating a small plane crash in Land O' Lakes.

Emergency dispatchers received the call around 3 a.m. Saturday near the vicinity of Lake Irene Drive and Bexley Road.

According to officials, there is one confirmed death - 48-year-old Andreas Wendel, a Swiss citizen and a pilot for Edelweiss Air from Bassersdorf, Switzerland. He had no relatives in the U.S., but his next-of-kin in Switzerland has been notified.

The plane involved was a Cessna 172 - a four-seat, single-engine aircraft.

At this time, the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
