HUDSON, Fla. - A pursuit that started in Hudson and went north into Hernando County, ended with one Pasco County Sheriff's deputy injured and a man on a motorcycle dead in the middle of the road.

Investigators say Deputy Ashley Grady was trying to arrest Brittany Miles on a drunk driving charge. Miles was handcuffed, but got back behind the wheel of her red Dodge truck and fled, dragging the deputy across US 19.

Luis Vazquez came to the deputy's aid after she was thrown down on to the road.  "There was blood all over the concrete," said Vazquez.  "She was coherent, but I believe it might have been her adrenaline."

The Sheriff's office says Miles drove north into Hernando County. That's where Barbara Stern was on her way to work.

In a matter of seconds, Stern says she saw the truck slam into a motorcycle that was turning from County Line Road on a green light.  "I couldn't stop shaking. I couldn't even move," she said.

The driver of the motorcycle was killed. He is identified as 66-year-old Henry McCain of Spring Hill. Investigators say the truck traveled another mile before it's flat tires helped end the chase.

Miles, who was just arrested two weeks ago on a drug charge, was taken into custody again after trying to flee by foot.

Vazquez says he was taking his taking kids to school when the traffic stop turned violent.  "If we would have been ten minutes ahead of that, she would have ran me and my children over and probably wouldn't have thought twice about it," said Vazquez.

About seven miles north of where the impact happened, Stern said the truck ran down the man on the motorcycle like a dog and kept going.

"I don't understand how people have no regard for life at all they just don't. I hope she burns," said Stern.

The deputy was hospitalized with minor head injuries, scrapes and bruises, but is expected to be ok.

Miles has had at least seven previous traffic citations in Hernando County, including speeding and careless driving.

She faces multiple charges including homicide, escape, fleeing and eluding and crimes against a person that could result in death.
