PASCO COUNTY, Fla. - Opening statements are getting underway in the Brittany Miles murder trial in Hernando County.

Miles is charged with hitting and killing a motorcyclist in Hernando County in 2011.

That happened just minutes after she escaped from a Pasco County deputy during a traffic stop.

That deputy was hurt when miles allegedly took off and dragged the deputy along-side her truck.

In December, she was sentenced to 15 years in a Pasco prison for that incident.

During the high speed chase, authorities say she hit and killed a motorcyclist, 67-year-old Henry McCain.

On Monday prosecutors rejected a plea deal of 15-years in a Pasco prison offered by Miles' attorney.

If she is found guilty of murder, she faces a life in prison sentence.
