SPRING HILL, Fla. - Four people died and one was seriously injured, in a three-car crash on US 41 near Parsley Lane in Spring Hill Sunday evening.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 60-year-old Edith Busto of Tampa was driving southbound on US 41 in a no-passing zone when she attempted to pass a Toyota driven by 28-year-old Loi Dac Ho of Tampa.
After passing the Toyota, Busto lost control of her vehicle due to wet road conditions because of rain and spun out into the northbound lane where her car was hit by a Ford driven by 42-year-old Joe Wayne McBroom of Hudson.
After the passenger side of the Volkswagon was struck by the Ford, it was hit by the Toyota.
Busto and her passengers, 63-year-old Juan M. Alas and 49-year-old Carmen Rosa Gomez-Lopez, both of Tampa, died in the crash. A third passenger, 48-year-old Jorge Luis Busto Almarales of Tampa, was airlifted to Bayonet Point Hospital with serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol says all four people in the Volkswagon were not wearing their seatbelts, and the three passengers were ejected during the crash.
Troopers say McBroom, who also died at the scene from injuries suffered in the accident, was not wearing his seatbelt either.
Loi Dac Ho and the three passengers in her Toyota were not injured.
