NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Brena Carter, 13, was riding her bike along Highway U.S. 19 Friday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle, Florida Highway Patrol say.
Around 4 p.m. a car, believed to be a Toyota Camry, struck the teen near Avery Road on U.S. 19. She was on the sidewalk, and not riding in the roadway, troopers report.
The sedan reportedly never stopped after hitting the teen and was last seen making a U-turn, traveling west and exited a driveway onto the highway.
Carter was taken to Saint Joseph's hospital where she was listed in serious, but stable condition.
Her mother, Kimberly, says that her daughter has since been released from the hospital.
FHP troopers are asking anyone that may have witnessed the impact to call 813-631-4020.
