PALM HARBOR - A 54-year-old man was killed after another driver ran a red light Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at 5:30 AM in the Oldsmar/Countryside area of Pinellas County. FHP says Jonathan Bytautas, 29, of Clearwater, was driving a BMW north on McMullen Booth Road. The victim, Robert Raymer Jr., of Holiday, was driving east on Curlew Road. FHP says Raymer had a green light at the intersection, while Bytautas had a red light. Bytautas failed to stop at the red light and collided with the passenger side of Raymer's pick-up.
After the collision, both vehicles headed in a northeast direction and collided with a pick-up driven by 60-year-old George Paajanen.
Raymer died at the scene. Bytautas sustained serious injuries, and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Paajanen, who received minor injuries, remained at the scene.
Curlew Road and northbound McMullen Booth Road were closed until approximately 9 AM while FHP and traffic homicide investigators gathering information from the scene. Charges are pending against Bytautas.
