PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Florida's delegates hoped to arrive to the Tampa Bay Times Forum on time tonight. Buses left Palm Harbor around 5:30 pm. Yesterday, the group got there later than they expected.
Richard Nugent, U.S. Representative for Florida's 5th District, says delegates waited for buses at the Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort, in Palm Harbor to pick them up.
Congressman Nugent said, "You see bus after bus after bus leave and then there are none left and one of the guys comes up and says we have to apologize, but the RNC forgot to task buses to pick up the Florida delegates."
Congressman Nugent added, "When you have the logistics issues that you have at a convention of this size, trying to move people from point A to point B, you sort of have to be flexible."
Congressman Nugent says convention officials quickly fixed the problem and 20 minutes later, buses pulled up. But, that wasn't the first glitch of the trip, which is at least a 25-mile ride to the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Delegates say the driver also made a wrong turn, but eventually got them there.
Congressman Nugent said "We actually got there on time. At least the first wave did. The buses that we were on." Congressman Nugent says so far, Tampa has done an excellent job with the event and should be commended. But, he hopes there are no more problems with transportation. He knows VP candidate Paul Ryan personally and tonight, plans to take a car to his speech.
