LARGO - A mother and daughter died after a fire broke out Thursday night in unit 143 of the Twin Oaks condominiums at 11200 102 Avenue North in Largo, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office report.
When firefighters arrived, the condo was fully engulfed in flames.
Alice Baker, 97, was found lying in rear of the one-story condominium's kitchen unconscious. She was pulled out of the home, treated and taken to the hospital, but she didn't survive.
As firefighters continued searching the condo found 72-year-old wheelchair bound Marlene Schaffran.
Neighbors attempted to help the two, but could not reach them because of the thick, black smoke.
Investigators say the fire does not seem to be suspicious. Two other condo units were damaged by the flames.
The investigation on the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing.
