Friends and family are mourning the death of Zack Shannon, a Dunedin native who was killed in action on Tuesday serving in Afghanistan.
He was an Army mechanic who worked on Black Hawk helicopters. Shannon was a member of the junior naval ROTC program at Dunedin High School.
"My heart dropped, because I know that that's the baby of the family and his parents are devastated," said neighbor Tammy Burke.
Shannon was the youngest of three boys. Many said he looked up to his older brother who is also in the military. Friends say he was set on joining the military at an early age.
