Woman extricated from vehicle in head-on collision on Belcher Road

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Authorities are investigating a head-on collision in Clearwater that left one driver seriously injured overnight Sunday.

Bonnie Blanchard, 51, was driving in the wrong direction on Belcher Road, northbound in the southbound lane, when she struck 31-year-old Demetrios Lianidis’ vehicle head-on just before 7:00 p.m.

The incident happened near the crossroad of Sunnydale Boulevard.

Both vehicles suffered heavy damage and Blanchard had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was taken to Bayfront Hospital with serious injuries and Lianidis was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries.

All lanes of Belcher Road were closed for one and a half hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
