CLEARWATER - The gun used in the home shooting of a Clearwater teen Thursday had been stolen from a vehicle, Clearwater Police have determined.
Ryan Greenlee, 15, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after being shot with a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun.
The handgun was stolen from an unlocked vehicle between 2:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday 11:00 a.m. on the 1200 block of Highland Avenue.
Detectives said the gun was brought to the teen’s home at 1344 Browning Street by a minor.
Detectives have not officially ruled the shooting as accidental but it appears to be the case.
Police said a group of minors were in the home when two of them were handling the weapon, and it accidentally fired, striking Greenlee.
Detectives are investigating how the gun got into the minor’s possession. No names are being released at this time.
