One dead in officer-involved shooting in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Two Clearwater Officers were patrolling the Palmetto Park Apartments at 1001 N. MLK Avenue when they saw a possible wanted subject.
When they attempted to make contact, the man fled.
Officers chased him on foot through the apartment complex. During the chase, the subject brandished a handgun and shot multiple times at the officers. At least one of the officers returned fire, striking the shooter.
The shooter then entered an apartment where he barricaded himself.
Additional officers responded and attempted to make contact with the shooter.
Eventually, officers entered and found the suspect lying on the floor with a handgun near his hand.

Paramedics were called in to render aid to the shooter, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
