CLEARWATE - A couple who used a young boy to commit two business thefts in Clearwater Beach are under arrest after police received an anonymous tip from someone who saw them on a newscast, according to a statement.
Julio Angel Torres, 31, and Janet M. Soto, 37, were arrested at the Sunrise Bowling Center on N. Martin Luther King Street in St. Petersburg late Tuesday.
Both are from Kissimmee.
They are accused of stealing items from a Ron Jon Surf Shop and two purses from a Hooters restaurant storage room on Sunday evening. The thefts were captured on surveillance cameras. The video was later distributed to news outlets.
Police say a 10-year-old boy helped to put the items in a baby stroller. The couple's 2-year-old daughter was in the stroller during the thefts, police say.
Their 2006 Acura was seized along with, $575 in cash, two stolen purses and credit cards.
Torres and Soto are charged grand theft, burglary, credit card fraud and felony child neglect. Torres also faces a charge of violation of probation.
The investigation remains open and more charges may be added, according to police.
The two children are under the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
