CLEARWATER, Fla. - A Clearwater woman is facing a charge of child abuse after her 2-year-old daughter was injured while being dragged by a car in which she was allegedly making a drug deal.
According to Clearwater Police spokesperson Rob Shaw, Nicole Whitfield, 27, was in the vehicle at 2525 Drew St. in Clearwater, as her daughter sat in a nearby vehicle.
At some point, the girl got out of the vehicle, went to the vehicle and tried to get in. "Once the deal went awry, the daughter ended up being dragged a short distance by a vehicle," Shaw said.
The child suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital, where Department of Children and Families officials also responded. "The child was released from the hospital to the custody of relatives," Shaw said.
Whitfield was arrested near the scene at 8:42 p.m. Friday.
She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on the child abuse charge and released around 4:10 p.m. Saturday. When asked for comment upon her release at the jail by ABC Action News, she did not give one.
